Special Guests Excited for the Summit

Josh McElroy

We’re thrilled to be attracting accomplished horsemen and women to our Durango conference. Here are a few who’ve gravitated to our event:

Peggy Gurnett runs Peggy Gurnett Horsemanship in Boulder County, Colorado where she has been helping horse owners and riders for decades. Gurnett has been featured in Western Horseman and on ESPN. She’s ridden around the country with a focus on helping humans connect with horses. Read more here.

Josh McElroy is a 13-year veteran of US Army Special Operations, in which he served as a medic. McElroy now teaches horsemanship and life skills at an alternative high school called The Stables in Lexington KY. He read Evidence-Based Horsemanship by Dr. Steve Peters and Martin Black while he was deployed to Afghanistan.

McElroy writes: Ever since reading EBH, I’ve been working to better understand how my interactions effect the horses. I am currently writing on a curriculum which will allow my high school students and other staff to learn a more evidence-based way to work with the horses we have on-site in our Therapeutic Riding program. I am excited about being able to attend this summit and have a chance to learn how other educators and horse professionals are applying scientific principles in their day-to-day work.

Thanks, Josh!

Jane & Stuart Myers

Jane and Stuart Myers of Equiculture are our first special guests from the United Kingdom. The horse couple live Skipton, North Yorkshire.

The Myers are authors and speakers on the subject of Sustainable Horse Keeping. They have lived in Australia and the UK, teaching people around the world how to care for their horses in a way that takes care of their ethological needs and takes care of the wider environment at the same time. Even better, their method of horse keeping usually results in less workload and expense for humans – a true win-win-win all round, says Jane Myers.

They run a very popular and active Facebook group called Equicentral Central.

We look forward to visiting with everyone soon!
